Introduction
The Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology PGMI was started in 1976 by the Pioneer Professor of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology Dr. Nasib R. Awan. The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology is a paraclinical/basic department that holds a unique position as it operates in two locations: 6-Birdwood Road, Lahore, as the Academic Campus, and Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, as the Mortuary and Medicolegal Clinic. Currently, the department is under the supervision of Dr. Pervaiz Zarif, Associate Professor, who diligently oversees operations at both sites.
Our department offers a comprehensive range of services, primarily focusing on autopsies and medicolegal examinations. With a dedicated team of medical officers and demonstrators, we conduct over 125 autopsies and handle more than 4000 medicolegal cases annually. Our skilled professionals ensure accurate and thorough investigations, aiding in the determination of cause and manner of death.
In addition to our clinical services, we take great pride in being a training center for postgraduate students pursuing degrees in MPhil and DMJ. Our experienced faculty members provide valuable guidance and mentorship to aspiring forensic medicine and toxicology specialists, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in their respective fields.
Moreover, our department serves as a vital teaching center for undergraduate students. Through interactive lectures, practical demonstrations, and engaging workshops, we strive to cultivate a solid foundation of understanding in forensic medicine and toxicology among our undergraduate cohort. As a result of our dedicated efforts, our department has maintained a remarkable 100% pass rate for undergraduate students over the past five years.
With a commitment to professionalism, excellence, and the advancement of forensic medicine and toxicology, the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology stands at the forefront of academic and clinical practices.
