BRIEF HISTORY / OVERVIEW
The Department of Dermatology was established in PGMI/LGH Lahore, during the year 2002.

Teaching Programme:

         FCPS: 5
         MD: 2
         MCPS: 7

Departmental Teaching:
         Teaching Rounds & daily Consultant OPD.
         Weekly Journal club and CPC in Ward.
         Regular Participation in hospital CPC.
         Monthly tests of PGRs.

Facilities available:
          a. Electrocautery
          b. Cryotherapy
          c. Intralesional
          d. Phototherapy
          e. Library
           f. Laser Hair Removal
          g. CO2 Laser
          h. Minor cutaneous surgical procedures.
          i. Mole removal

OPD & Indoor Facility :
        On average 250-300 Patients are checked daily , 6 days a week .
        23-bedded indoor ward.


Current Research Projects:
      Comparison of efficacy of 1% Clindamycin gel with 5% Dapsone gel in mild to moderate
         acne vulgaris.
      Comparison of intralesional Traimcinolone acetonide Versus Platelet rich plasma in
         alopecia areata.
      To determine the efficacy and safety of ablative CO2 laser in treatment of vitiligo.
      Comparison of efficacy between topical ivermectin 1% and topical permethrin 5% for
         the treatment of scabies.
      Comparison of efficacy of intralesional 5- fluorouracil alone, intralesional triamcinolone
         acetonide alone and intralesional triamcinolone acetonide with 5- fluorouracil in keloids.
      Role of PRP in androgenetic alopecia in male patient.

Achievements:
Establishment of a separate Indoor Ward, Phototherapy unit , IPL treatment setup for Hair Removal, Histopathology /Lectures Class room, CO2 Laser therapy for Skin Growths, Library with sufficient supply of Text books during a period of 5 years.

      Skin Biopsy & Histopathology.
      Tissue Smear for LD body, Slit skin smears for leprosy.
      Skin Scrapings Examination for Fungus & Mite.
      Woods Lamp Examination.
